Who can volunteer?

Anybody with the free will to contribute to the initiative could apply to be part of the initiative. For individuals <18 years of age, it is expected to have additional concurrence of their parents/legal guardians for participation.

Anybody with the free will to contribute to the initiative could apply to be part of the initiative. For individuals <18 years of age, it is expected to have additional concurrence of their parents/legal guardians for participation.

Volunteer commitments:

Commitment to spend an hour on a daily basis including weekends or entire weekends (Sat and Sun) on a regular basis for the coming 5-6 months.

Mentor Commitments:

Commitment to continuously interact with the team/community on a regular basis providing guidance and motivation and also spend approx at least 3 hours over weekends for interacting and monitoring the progress of the activities.

Key Skill Sets and requirements

A citizen science initiative relies on voluntary contributions. The emphasis for participation in such an initiative therefore would not be based on formal qualifications, but strong motivation and commitment to contribute the best of his/her skill sets to the initiative.

The following are the key verticals and expected skill sets for contributions.

  1. Systematic data collection and reporting (volunteers are expected to contribute approx 1 hour daily and update online resources.)

  2. Development and Implementation (volunteers are expected to contribute to the development of web based and secure resources and contribute to the open-source code base for the initiative.)

  3. Data Visualisation (volunteers are expected to contribute to development of visualisation applications for data and resources developed as part of the initiative. Individuals with a good skill set on GIS mapping and mapping are also welcome )

  4. Analytics and Algorithms (volunteers are expected to contribute on a constant basis to the analysis of data and develop algorithms to analyse the data corpus created as part of the programme. Key strengths in scripting, statistics and data analytics is expected. Individuals with bioinformatics and computational biology aptitude and and good scripting/coding skills and a strong commitment to the cause of open science are also welcome to join in)

  5. Communication and collaboration (volunteers are expected to contribute to the public outreach and establishing key collaborations to advance the initiative. Individuals with key skills in audiovisual, mass media as well as design are welcome to contribute)
